Never regret anything that made you smile

Life is short.
Break the rules.
Forgive quickly, kiss slowly,
love truly, laugh uncontrollably,
and never regret anything that made you smile.

Instead of killing yourself

Wait until
A year from now
Where you say,
“Holy fuck,
I can’t believe I was going to kill myself before I etcetera’d….
Before I went skinny dipping in Tennesee,
Made my own IPA.
Tried out for a game show,
Rode a camel drunk,
Skydived alone,
Learned to waltz with clumsy old people,
Photographed electric jellyfish,
Built a sailboat from trash,
Taught someone how to read
Etc. etc. etc.”
The red washing
down the bathtub
can’t change the color of the sea
at all.

(But before you wait, get the professional help you deserve. Time doesn't always heal but a qualified doctor can help you get there.)

We only regret the chances we didn't take

In the end,
we only regret the chances we didn't take,
relationships we are afraid to have,
and the decisions we waited too long to make.

So stand up and fight

Do you think that your life has so many problems?
Believe me they are nothing in front of other living beings
who have to encounter death daily just for drinking water.
So stand up and fight.
Never give up!

The only thing that burns in Hell...

The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won’t let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they’re not punishing you, he said. They’re freeing your soul. So, if you’re frightened of dying and… and you’re holding on, you’ll see devils tearing your life away. But if you’ve made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.

Too short to waste

Life is short.
Too short to waste a single second with anyone
who doesn’t appreciate you and value you.

Leave loved ones with loving words

You should always leave loved ones with loving words.
It may be the last time you see them.

Show me while I’m alive

Don’t come to my funeral to show how much you cared about me.
Show me how much you care about me now.
While I’m alive.

The current moment is all you have.

At any moment your life can come to an end.
The current moment is all you have.
What you do with it is up to you.

Please forgive me...

Please forgive me.
When I die please place my body in a glass casket so that others might learn from my mistakes.

To be reborn and rise again

Sometimes you just have to die a little inside in order to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you.

To rise from your own ashes

Sometimes you have to kind of die inside in order to rise from your own ashes and believe in yourself and love yourself to become a new person.

A world so hateful...

A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are.

Had I not created my whole world...

Had I not created my whole world I would certainly have died in other people’s.

When a loved one’s gone

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on.
And cherished memories never fade because a loved one is gone…
Those we love can never be more than a thought apart.
For as long as there is memory they’ll live on in the heart.

Death is nothing at all

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity nor sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me.
Let my name be ever the household word
That it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of my mind
Because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.

All is well.
- Henry Scott Holland

The way sadness works

The way sadness works
is one of the strange riddles of the world.
If you are stricken with a great sadness,
you may feel as if you have been set aflame,
not only because of the enormous pain,
but also because your sadness may spread over your life,
like smoke from an enormous fire.
You might find it difficult to see anything but your own sadness,
the way smoke can cover a landscape
so that all anyone can see is black.
You may find that if someone pours water all over you,
you are damp and distracted,
but not cured of your sadness,
the way a fire department can douse a fire
but never recover what has been burnt down.
- Lemony Snicket

I'd bring you home again.

If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I’d walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
